DPP Day Nineteen ~ Fourth Sunday of Advent

We've had a challenging week, PoTSwise - it took a little while to collect the new medications and although they do not have the same side effects as the last drug they don't appear to be working as well, so Pip has had several pre fainting episodes this week and has spent a great deal of time lying down on the sofa with her legs elevated.  However she has been settling for the night at a much better time which is much appreciated.

The last few days have been a bit of a blur trying to catch up with outstanding jobs, errands and last minute present wrapping.  To my overseas friends I'm hoping your gifts might arrive around the Feast of the Epiphany!  Today was a trying to catch up on the household chores including the washing of our bedroom curtains - they had not been done since we moved in four years ago and needed a jolly good clean!  Unfortunately the label said hand wash only but they are floor to ceiling heavy curtains, so I figured that surely they would be ok on a delicate wash.  How wrong was I!!  The curtain blackout backing disintegrated in the wash and the curtains are no longer fit for purpose 😳. Thank God for that rather large online store, I was able to purchase a replacement set that can be washed at 30C and they are due on Tuesday - could've done without the additional expense though, ah well 😊

Last minute photos from today:

Dave enjoying a wee dram before bed, surrounding by various posting paraphernalia!

My University Bear that also doubles as a handy phone stand if I want to watch a youtube video or listen to a podcast.

I suppose I should clarify that I never succeeded in finishing my degree due to raising a family and then becoming horrendously poorly.  However I did my best to support Dave in his studies when the girls were older and so he bought me this bear decked out in his college colours, as a thank you for all the support over the four year period.  I often tell folk that I'm a graduate from the University of Life, specialising in chronic illness management!  I reckon I've acquired enough knowledge to write my thesis and upgrade to a PhD πŸ˜‚

Maybe the new medication will take a while to do the trick!

I did the same thing with our living-room curtains! The backing fell apart when I washed the curtains, but we have not been able to find a replacement due to the strange size of the window. So now our curtains have an interesting pattern on the one side. You can get custom-made curtains for that size, but that is so expensive! We also need drawstring-ones, it is all so complicated!

You probably have earned several degrees by now, in many different areas: child-rearing, diabetes, MS, celiac, homeschooling, etc. Sometimes it does not need to be a paper degree! Dave has had wonderful support over all those years!

Sorry to hear about your curtain woes, I am glad to hear that you managed to find a replacement. I wonder what on earth was in the fabric that caused it to disintegrate, perhaps you are better off without them!

I still have presents to post too, I am not worrying about them being there on time, I quite like spreading out the present opening over a few days.

I am sorry to hear that you have had a hard week with illness, i do hope that this week is a little better for Pip, especially for her birthday x

Hello San, I hope Pip is faring better right now with the new meds. I'm sorry about your curtains! What a mess. I understand completely. I'm amazed you could fit them in the washing machine! I stuck the Montauk ones in the tub. They were not easy to move around and agitate because they were so large, but at least it was summer so I did a cursory job and hung them over the deck. I couldn't iron them, however, but over these months the wrinkles have stretched out a bit (I was afraid the heat would melt them as they were partial blackout). I have no idea where my mother found these curtains and I didn't want to have to buy new ones because all the ones my sister was finding online were so expensive. I hope you like the ones that arrive and that they wash easily.

Your graduate bear is very cute and I agree with Eva that you have certainly earned many degrees in subjects you probably never thought you would! Greg, also, never finished his degree, but he is always teaching himself something new too. You are both highly motivated, hard working graduates of Life and super fantastic parents :)
