Let Them Eat Cake ...

...especially if it is flour-less and fat free!

We had some long standing friends visit over the weekend and I made this cake.  It was recommended by a friend and it certainly lived up to its reputation.  Yesterday I found some of the left over pears languishing in the tin and thought why not tweak the recipe and see if it is just as good?  So I replaced the bar of chocolate for two heaped dessert spoons of cocoa and omitted the butter completely and it tasted just as good as the original!

I thought I would also respond here to a few requests made on my last posting with regard to permaculture.   Here are some sites that I have found helpful:

Flo Scott Permaculture Designer I have had a few face book conversations with Flo and apart from writing about landbased permaculture she has also used the design principles with regard to observing and managing a chronic health condition.

Looby Macnamara I first heard of Looby when I saw a you tube video based on her book "People and Permaculture."  I think she was the person that took permaculture design to another level and applied it to people and relationships.  From this one can see how it could then be applied to not only personal interactions but in the wider community, business and schools.

The Permaculture Association  This is the place for accessing local groups, courses and a membership subscription.

Hope these links are useful, I know they have helped me enormously.

I am flying solo as from tomorrow!  Dave will be in Edinburgh tomorrow and Thursday as he has three intensive physio sessions at this clinic.  This will be the first of many fortnightly sessions for a total of twenty five treatments.

Thanks for the good wishes. I am currently awake with stomach pain! Hope you are having a good week!

Oh, San, stomach pain! Did you eat something strange? Do you have magnesium at hand? That sometimes helps. I okay, I just think I might be getting a cold. I am grading right now. Have you heard anything from Dorina by the way?

I might have some mag phos in! Haven't heard from D but her last post mentioned visitors so I assumed she was more busy than usual.

I am using this awake time to plan a strategy for my health and the homeschool using permaculture principles. I can already see where changes need to be made and that is uplifting!

The stomach pain is ongoing food intolerances I need to re establish a more strict anti histamine diet for the time being. Makes meal planning very interesting!

Hope your cold dissipates quickly.

Good luck with the diet. Isn't it awful that there are so many food in tolerances and allergies in this world? I wonder what people did many years ago. They probably just died early. We are so lucky with what kind of research has become available to us!

Good luck with the new principles. It sounds interesting, but I am too tired to think of something new right now. We will get a new floor next week (there goes my much deserved spring break). We have to move everything off the living-room and dining-room floor and also move the fridge and stove. It will be very interesting to find out how we will eat. There are no real restaurants here and campus will be closed due to spring break.

Hope the stomach will improve soon.

Hard work! When we had the downstairs floor laid the guy did one area at a time and so at least we had other areas we could use. Do you have a microwave? When we had the kitchen ripped out when I was pregnant with Pip I made a load of meals, froze them and then defrosted and reheated where necessary. You'll have to ask J to watch a YouTube video on a Rocket Stove I bet he'd have fun constructing one and they are excellent at cooking soups and providing hot water for tea/ coffee. The stove is on my fun school list for Ben!

No, we don't have one. But Peter is going to get two counter top burners I think. I hope that will help. We will be able to use the upstairs, but there is nothing there that helps with cooking. I don't have any time to precook and we don't have a freezer, just a tiny freezer compartment. So those two burners will have to do the trick. I have to check out that video, though. Sound like something Jonathan would love to do.

The guy will rip out the carpet and hopefully be able to finish the hardwood oak floor underneath. We don't know what is in the kitchen under the linoleum. We will find out on Monday when they start. We will have to take some of the books onto campus because there is no room here to keep them.

I reheated food in the dining room as the fridge and micro was stored there and we washed the pots in the sink upstairs!! Dave and Sara were in Madrid at the time as Emma was making her first lot of vows, Benedict was a tiddler at just five! Seems a lifetime ago.

Sweet memories, when looking back, aren't they? I do hope that we will not encounter any major disasters during the project.

Will keep you in prayers for that one, that all will be well and that you manage to have a little bit of rest each day.

Hello San! It's good that Dave is going to therapy and I hope he finds it very very helpful. He must be home now . . and all of you must be happy to see him. I'll have to write Eva about her floor. There are renovations we need to do here but I put them off because I so dislike the disruption to our home life. Your cake looks delicious as do the pears! We're having very cold weather again and I noticed it's the usual 40 degrees by you, but with some sunshine in these past few days? Sending you a big hug . .
