Foraged Apples

Last Sunday Ben brought home these apples for free and when we weighed them the bag was over 14kg.

Our neighbour on the next road inherited two apple trees when they moved in to the property but they don’t care for apples!  For a while now we could see they were lying around unattended and so Ben asked if he could pick them and they said, “yes.”  He offered to make them stewed apple in return and that is when they told him that they don’t eat apples.

Everyday Ben has been busy in the kitchen and we now have a freezer drawer dedicated to delicious stewed apples.

Not only have we saved money but we've also helped save food waste.  There is a social media campaign currently running asking folk not to buy online or purchase goods from a major supermarket on the 28th October the day of the Autumn budget, this is because food is not a luxury and folk should not be struggling with rising food prices in trying to feed their families.  What makes things worse is not only do these big conglomerates rack up humongous profits they are the biggest contributors of food waste in this country 🙁. Food that is perfectly fit for human consumption is thrown away at the end of each day instead of being donated to community food larders or given away free to the general public, its a disgrace.
