Daily Joys :: The Hospital Edition

In a blink of an eye I went from this:

Saturday night yarn dyeing with Pip.

 Gloved and Gowned.

 Magenta Pink Mix.

 Testing different colour mixes.

To six hours later waking at 3am with very severe abdominal pain, which led to shock and a split second loss of consciousness.  I quickly recognised the symptoms as a "gluten cross contamination reaction" and although horrendous thought my body would sort itself out.  This however was not to be the case and when I began to bleed I realised something very bad was happening, so an ambulance was dispatched.  Thankfully I was able to contact a friend and her husband who came to help Dave until family members arrived.  My friend Bea came in the ambulance with me and stayed until they moved me from A&E to acute surgical.  Kath travelled from Barrow to collect Pip who was looked after by family and Sara and Tom stayed to help Dave.

By early evening on Sunday my condition had stabilised and the consultant satisfied that my lower intestine and bowel had not ruptured, declared me able to return home.  I must admit I felt wretched as a result of being dehydrated but knew that I would have much needed peace and quiet at home.  My recovery is a slow process and I have lost my appetite and as a result feel nauseous most of the time.  I have been allocated an appointment for an endoscopy on Tuesday to ensure nothing sinister is lurking.  Your prayers and good thoughts would be much appreciated at this time.

Naturally I haven't been in much of a state for taking photographs but I would like to share a story with you:

Our daughter Sr Emma Maria was praying on Sunday afternoon with the community of sisters and when they reached the last decade of the rosary, she felt this overwhelming need to pray for me and her dad.  Straight after the prayers, she sat down to have a snack and the next minute the phone was ringing, it was Dave telling her that I had been admitted.  An ocean separates us from her in northern Spain and us in the UK, but the love of Christ never separates us :-)

Oh San, that must have been so scary! Did you get a diagnosis? They did not do surgery, right? I will pray that there is nothing serious going on. And the connection with Emma was just wonderful! I hope that things will return to normal soon.

Lots of love,
Eva

No surgery and the endoscopy is to help them ascertain if there are undiagnosed issues. Your prayers are much appreciated xx

Upper or lower? Do they think it comes for the stomach or the intestines?

Oh San, gosh I'm sorry to hear this! That sort of pain and shock is awful. Sending you love and prayers, both for you and for the children and Dave, both now as you rest and of course prayers for the endoscopy as well.

Lower but since coming out of hospital my stomach also hurts and I am struggling to eat and drink :-(. Goodness knows how I am going to drink two litres of ghastly medicine to clear out my system! All prayers appreciated x

Thank you x

That does not sound pleasant and I all know all about those "drinks" after having had two colonoscopies and one CT scan. Make sure somebody is close by when drinking the medicines: I almost passed out when doing it. And have some probiotics handy; after using those harsh chemicals I had diarrhea for a month afterwards.

You are a gem of a friend!! Wish I could give you a not so big hug cos I hurt :-). Xx

Sending you a big cyber hug: They don't hurt. I hope all will go well Tuesday, but I know how hard it is to wait. With things like that it is always easier when they are over.

Oh my goodness, you poor thing! May you be rested, may you soon be all better. xx

Just wondering how you are doing now. Hope it all went well. We were in church and our pastor prayed for all people who were having surgery and medical procedures. I think he instinctively "knew" about you. I also said a prayer for you.

Thinking of you and praying all went smoothly with both the prep and the procedure. My 13yo has had to do such, and it is not easy. Big {{hugs}}

No, Christ's love never separates us. Ah, San. I wish I could take all this pain away from you with the wave of my hand. We care about all of you deeply and you are so blessed to have such loving people to help you. I'm so glad you do. And you constantly amaze me with your strength and vision. I hope you are having a good day today . . and the yarn dyeing looks like so much fun. xoxoxo, Dorina
