First Day ~ Grade Two

Pip started back at school today under a new headship.  The school had an open day yesterday which I attended and I'm glad that I did.  The heart and soul has been ripped out of the place :-(  It has been replaced by an obsession with testing and targets, stupid unnecessary reward systems and break time detentions for anyone not wearing full uniform.  The school has had an unwarranted repainting and is now decked out in a ghastly red and cream colour scheme that is reminiscent of an institution. If I was looking for a school this place would not be my first choice.  The only saving grace is the fact that Pip's teacher is truly lovely and that her best buddy Beth was anxiously waiting for her in the classroom.  A sad day!

 Still Smiling.

The painting colors do sound ugly. Good luck, Pip!

San,

What sad news about the school. Pip has a beautiful smile! Hoping Pip's classroom will be a happy and caring place despite the negative changes. xx

Hello San, Truly the teacher can be everything . . even with testing and rewards and an institutional color scheme. If things ever get too rough with the teacher, then consider having her home again . . or if she asks to come home. Unfortunately, many of our public schools are in the same situation here. My friend calls it the breakdown of western civilization :( Whatever you want to name it, it's very frustrating!!! But people find ways around; such as homeschooling and in New York City, public charter and private schools (the latter many of us cannot afford). So far I think things sound good for you, so breathe and just stay abreast!! Love to all of you!!! xoxoxoxoxo

P.S. That is such a beautiful and adorable picture of her on the first day!!! My Mom always took my first day pic! We had a holiday here.
