Diwali
We took Pip and AJ to see a Diwali based interactive theatre production entitled, 'Heart of Light.' The show was performed by two actors associated with the Forest Tribe Dance Theatre and they did an amazing job telling the story of Rama and Sita:
The audience were part of Hanuman's monkey army and we had to help build the bridge so that Rama could save Sita from the evil snatches of Ravana:
Confectionary Badge
Pip has completed all three stages of her confectionary badge. Her brief was to make one sweet and one baker's confectionary, she then had to make sweet food associated with a festival and her last challenge was to make something from your favourite place. Therefore in addition to the fudge she also made the following treats:
Apple Turnovers
Sticky Date and Coconut Diwali Sweets
Cardomom and Pistachio Shortbread Biscuits, another Diwali recipe
Gloucestershire Apple and Cheddar Cake.
Pip loved visiting Gloucester and spending time with Uncle Mike and so she made this cake in his memory. Our next door neighbour Ann kindly loaned a loaf tin and so in return Pip gave them a slice each of the cake :-)
Halloween Party
It was Pip's first Halloween party with Guides and she opted for a skeleton cat theme and as a result of my efforts she won first prize, a bag of sweets!

Pip looks so grown up, I love the last picture on this post. The confectionary badge sounds really good, I want to come over and share some of the amazing food she has made it all looks wonderful!
Yes I thought she looked grown up, way too soon! You are always welcome at our place 🙂
In some ways, I really regret not being in the Guides and Brownies- I feel a lot of useful skills could have been gained!!! Pip looks amazing- you did such a good job on her face!!!
The new badge system is definitely more challenging and in addition to the interest badges there are group challenges too. I was pleased with my efforts and happy that she appreciated the finished result x
Prefect you found something about Rama and Sita! That is one of the stories that is in Grade 5 in Live Ed! And her costume for Halloween is wonderful.
And congratulations on all the new cooking skills. That all looks delicious.
Wow I didn't know that! Over here she is Grade 6 last year at primary but you're right in a Waldorf school she would be Grade 5. When she took on the coconut sweets to share and her badge scrapbook containing all her work, Guider was very impressed. In fact she had never seen a badge book so well documented 🙂 I told her that we home school and that we are using the interest badges as part of our curriculum xx
Congratulations Pip! I agree that all her baking looks amazing, and you did a wonderful job with her costume. I'm so happy for you both :) The Diwali performance must have been a lot of fun. I enjoyed seeing the video. Greg celebrated Diwali, also, at his office. He has a lot of co-workers from India. They had samosas, chicken tika and many different sweets. Of course, he didn't know what half of the items were! It was a buffet and there were many dishes to choose from.
I think it's so wonderful that you have been able to combine homeschooling and Guides!
Has Greg been able to find a new job then?!
