The First Day Back Is Always The Worst

I bet there was a groan of dismay around the UK today, as staff and students began the first day back.  Having home schooled for nine years I have learned (the hard way!) that it doesn't pay to jump in with a full schedule on the first day back.  So with that it mind I planned a series of academic activities interspersed with games and free time.  And it worked!  The grumbling on both sides receded and we managed to achieve a fair amount today.  Our reward for all that effort was some home made  scones, spiced Christmas tea and watching "Eloise at Christmastime."  Thanks Dorina and co for this film, it was such a joy to watch and I wish you could have seen or heard Pip roaring with laughter at the funny moments :-)

These were served with butter and blackcurrant conserve.

Yes we began Lessons again last Wednesday and have kept it to half-days. Today will be our first full day.

Those scones looks amazing :-)

I'm not feeling ready to jump back in full-time yet (need to do some post-Christmas decluttering and organising first!) so we're just dipping our toes in this week. The scones look yummy!

Sounds like a sensible start to the year San!! Especially the scones and film 😀 We are taking it slowly too. Much like Sarah above, the year has started here with some organising and refreshing. Happy new year! xx

Hello San, we're glad you enjoyed the movie. It's so quintessentially NYC and all the actors are so good :)

Your scones look delicious! I'm so happy that your first day back went smoothly. It sounds like you have embraced the homeschooling rhythm that is best for your family, and now know specifically what works well and what doesn't. Hooray for you! It's always up and down, but acceptance and flexibility are key! I send you a big hug xoxo

If ONLY we were back on the 8th!!! I went back to school on the 2nd Jan and our kids were back on the 3rd. Nice idea to break her in gently.
